Mediterranean Review Editing Regulation

Enact: 01. 03. 2008. Revision: 01. 12. 2008, 19.05.2009, 24. 02. 2010, 19. 10. 2011, 02. 12. 2014.


Chapter 1. General Rules


Article 1. (Objective) Mediterranean Review, which is established under Article 3 of the regulations of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (hereinafter the Institute"), Busan University of Foreign Studies, is an English-language academic journal published twice a year by the Institute. Its purpose is to publish local research on the politics, economy, society, culture, law, history, language and literatures of the Mediterranean Area. This academic joumal aims to contribute to the development of domestic studies on overseas regions through research like theoretical discussion and analysis of trends, case studies and analysis of local policy etc.


Article 2. (Issuance) Mediterranean Review is issued twice cach year, on June

30 and December 31.


Article 3. (Composition and Period of Office of the Editing Committee)

1. The editing committee is organized according to Article 6 and Article 8

of the regulations of the Institute and is composed of 1 Editor-in-Chief,

1 Editor, and 1 Associate Editor. 2. The Editor-in-Chief shall be nominated by the president of the Institute

based on a recommendation by the operations committee of the Institute, who make their choice from among domestic experts on the Mediterranean region. 3. The editing committee shall be composed of experts in various fields

who have an outstanding record of research with respect to the Mediterranean region, and it shall be nominated by the president of the Institute based on the recommendation of the Editor-in-Chief. 4. The Editor-in-Chief and members of the editing committee shall serve

for 2 years, and may be re-appointed. 5. The Associate Editor shall be nominated by the president of the

Institute.


Article 4. (Operation of the Editing Committee)

1. The editing committee may be convoked regarding the publication of

Mediterranean Review frequently, and if necessary, may hold remote meetings. 2. The editing committee shall be convoked upon the request of the

Editor-in-Chief, and editing committee members may participate in the

editing committee meeting. 3. In the editing committee meeting, a resolution shall be passed if it has the support of half or more of the participating members.


Article 5. (Duties of the Editing Committee) The Editing committee shall

select members to screen the articles contributed to Mediterranean Review, and shall finally decide whether the articles may be published.


Article 6. (Copyright) All the ownerships including the copyrights of articles

and the rights on digital infomnation published in Mediterranean Review shall belong to the Institute.


Chapter 2. Contribution


Article 7. (Subject) Contributed articles shall only be articles not published in

another publication channel.


Article 8. (Qualification) Contributors of articles shall only be full time lecturers or part time lecturers in domestic or overseas colleges, or researchers that hold a Ph. D degree. The editing committee may permit contributions by those with equivalent qualifications after screening.


Article 9. (Regulation) Detailed instructions for contributing articles shall be

according to the separate instructions for contributing to Mediterranean Review.

 

Chapter 3. Screening


Article 10. (Screening and Screening Committee Members)

1. Contributed articles shall be screened by 2 reviewers who shall be

experts in the thematic field of the article in a double-blind process. In the case of articles published at an academic conference held by the Institute, the designated discusser may serve as 1 screening member by

agreement. 2. The contributor and screening committee members shall not be

disclosed among the parties concerned during the screening process. 3. If an editing committee member contributes an article, the party

concerned may not participate in the discussion about selecting screening committee members.


Article 11. (Screening Criteria)

1. Contributed articles shall be screened according to the following

criteria: 1) Importance and Academic Value of the Research Subject

The subject of the research shall contribute to the theoretical and practical development of Mediterranean region studies, and shall

have academic value. 2) Creativity and Development Potential of Contents

The contents of articles shall be creative in respect of the research

subject and method, and the contributor's existing researches. 3) Validity of Research Method

Articles shall be valid in respect of the proposal of the research subject, research history, research methodology, research contents, and results, and the specification of the anticipated contribution from

the research results etc. 4) Degree of Data Utilization and Accuracy Articles shall utilize data related to the research subject to the

maximum extent, and shall clearly identify the source. 5) Compliance with the Contribution Instructions and the Method for

Composing Articles Articles shall be in a form compliant with the contribution instructions for this academic journal.


Article 12. (Screening Procedure)

1. The editing committee shall determine whether an article may be

accepted or not. An article which is not relevant to the Mediterranean region, one which is not relevant to the major area of the contributor, or one which is determined to have ignored the contribution instructions

may not be received.

2. The editing committee shall select reviewers to screen the contributed articles, and shall send contributed articles to the applicable reviewers

along with screening-related forms.

3. The reviewers shall evaluate contributed articles according to the screening evaluation form, and shall determine whether the response to the article is 'Accept', 'Accept with minor revisions', 'Accept pending substantive revisions', 'Reconsider after major revisions', or "Reject".

4. The reviewer shall return the screening results to the editing committee

by the specified date.

5. The editing committee shall review the collected screening results, and

shall notify contributors of the results after finally deciding whether each article is published or not.


Article 13. (Decision on Being Published)

1. The decision on whether articles can be published is based on the

reviewers evaluations, as shown here:

2. Even though an article has received the decision, 'Can be published',

the contributor shall make modifications indicated by the screening committee and errors, and if this requirement is not followed, the contributor may be regarded as having no intention to publish the article.

3. The contributor of an article that has received the decision 'Can be

published after modification shall submit the article, modified as indicated by the screening committee, to the editing committee by the Specified date, and if this requirement is not followed, the contributor may be regarded as having no intention to publish the article. The modified contents shall be notified to the applicable screening committee, and if no remark is made within 3 days, the modified contents may be regarded as accepted. In particular cases, the editing

committee may determine whether further modification is necessary.

4. Even though an article has passed screening with the decision, 'Can be

published, or 'Can be published after modification', if a certain quota for articles in any one issue, as specified by the editing committee, is exceeded, publication may be restricted depending on the class of screening result and the appropriateness of the academic field. Publication of the same author in consecutive issues shall in principle be avoided.

5. Even after the decision on publication, if the article is found to have

violated research ethics regulations, the editing committee may cancel the decision, and may place a restriction on the contributor's eligibility

to contribute articles for a certain period of time.

6. The Editor shall mark the article processing schedule, e.g. date article

received, screening completion date and final publication decision date, on the last page of each article when publishing the journal.

These Editing Regulations came into force in December 2008.
