Purpose of Establishing the Institute for Mediterranean Studies
1. Academic Purpose
In-depth Mediterranean Area Studies
- Production of knowledge of the Mediterranean through comprehensive and interdisciplinary research on politics, economy,
society, history, culture, language, literature, etc. in the Mediterranean area (Europe, Middle East, and North Africa)
- Studies of Mediterranean Civilization Exchange
- The establishment of studies on the exchanges of Mediterranean civilizations by interpreting the Mediterranean as a place
where various civilizations have coexisted and communicated with each other, understanding it as a universal space of
civilizational exchange.
2. Educational Purpose
Nurturing Mediterranean Area Experts
- Nurture the next generation of Mediterranean area experts
- A Mediterranean-related curriculum (Undergraduate-Master-Phd)
- Young academics are trained to increase their ability in global thinking ability and to adapt to local languages and cultures
3. Social Purpose
Returning Research Results to the Society
- Building a web service system for sharing and spreading information and knowledge of the Mediterranean
- Sharing information and knowledge of the Mediterranean through various open lectures
- Providing information of the Mediterranean area by collecting, processing, and analyzing the latest information on each region
