Institute for Mediterranean Studies(IMS) is an expertise institute for Mediterranean region.
IMS has focused on materializing Mediterranean studies, bringing Mediterranean region to dimension of field of academy as well as fostering next generation researchers.
IMS has served as research expertise institute supported by Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea and National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), implementing Humanities Korea Project from 2007~2017 under the research agenda “The Interchange of Civilizations in the Mediterranean Area”, succeeded by Humanities Korea Plus (HK+) since 2018. (Agenda : “Construction of Global Hub for Mediterranean Civilization Exchange Studies”)
IMS, consisted of expertise of various fields, concentrates on interdisciplinary research, aiming to develop interdisciplinary studies with cooperation of ICT expertise. Establishment of such research tradition is expected to contribute Mediterranean studies with focuses on exchange of various civilizations.
IMS actively interacts with 21 institutes in 14 different countries as well as publishing 2 KCI-registered academic journals, which are Journal of Mediterranean Studies (Korean) and Mediterranean Review (English). The institute also authors several Mediterranean books as well as hosting open lectures for public through online and in person.
IMS wishes to extend its role to offering academic homeland for researchers of post generation along with providing forum of further research as Mediterranean expertise institution.
